The Unified Culture Promotion Foundation (UNICPF) is seeking a qualified and dedicated WASH Officer to support the successful implementation of its NHF-OCHA project in Borno State.

  • Reporting Line: Executive Director (Functionally reporting to the WASH Specialist)

Job Summary

The WASH Officer will support the planning, implementation, and monitoring of water, sanitation, and hygiene activities. The role ensures projects meet technical standards, are delivered on time, and promote safe water access, improved sanitation, and positive hygiene practices within the target communities.

Duties and Responsibilities (Summary)

  • Technical Implementation: Assist with planning, developing BoQs, designs, and technical specifications for WASH facilities (e.g., water supply systems). Supervise contractors and community workers to ensure quality execution.
  • Water Quality & O&M: Oversee the installation, operation, and maintenance of water supply systems (hand pumps and solar systems). Conduct regular water quality testing to comply with WHO/national standards.
  • Sanitation & Hygiene: Facilitate Community-Led Total Sanitation (CLTS) or similar approaches. Develop and implement hygiene promotion campaigns (handwashing, MHM) and train community hygiene promoters.
  • Coordination & Reporting: Prepare regular progress reports, support data collection (including electronic data collection), and represent the organization in local WASH coordination meetings.
  • Capacity Building: Support initiatives for community WASH committees and local authorities. Ensure the integration of gender, protection, and environmental considerations into all activities.

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Health, Water Resources Management, or a related field.
  • Experience: Minimum of 3–5 years of relevant experience in WASH program implementation, preferably in humanitarian or development contexts.
  • Technical Skills: Strong technical knowledge of water supply, sanitation design, and hygiene promotion. Experience with community mobilization and capacity building.
  • Computer Skills (Essential): Proficiency in Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Excel. Experience in Electronic Data Collection.
  • Technical Software (Desirable): Experience using AutoCAD, EPANET, GIS, or other design and mapping software. Familiarity with solar-powered water systems is a plus.
  • Language: Communication skills in English, with Hausa and Kanuri being an added advantage.
