Background

DRC has been active in Nigeria since 2015, working across 33 LGAs in the BAY states and Northwest Nigeria (Sokoto and Zamfara). Our programs target vulnerable populations including IDPs, returnees, and host communities. We deliver services in areas such as:

  • Armed Violence Reduction

  • Livelihoods

  • Nutrition & Food Security

  • Protection

  • Shelter & NFIs

  • WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene)

The situation in Northeast Nigeria remains complex, with conflict significantly limiting access to basic services and humanitarian aid.

Purpose of the Role

The Economic Recovery Assistant will support the implementation of the DRC-MSF partnership project in Katsina State. The goal is to enhance recovery outcomes for children discharged from Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) Intensive Therapeutic Feeding Centres (ITFCs) by providing their households with food assistance through cash transfers.

Key Responsibilities

Cash & Food Assistance Activities

  • Support distribution of prepaid cards and ensure correct beneficiary identification.

  • Facilitate CVA activities (Unconditional/Conditional Cash Grants) in coordination with supervisors.

  • Assist beneficiaries with PIN setup and withdrawal processes.

  • Provide on-site support during cash distribution events.

  • Raise awareness of nutritious food options among beneficiaries.

  • Supervise nutrition activities, including training and referral pathways.

  • Submit weekly and monthly reports.

  • Assist in project documentation and complaints/feedback mechanisms.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Coordinate with ward-level stakeholders in consultation with the line manager.

  • Ensure community consultations are integrated throughout the project cycle.

Social Cohesion

  • Facilitate dialogue and cooperation among community groups through planned activities.

  • Track and report participation using Excel and reporting tools.

Monitoring & Evaluation

  • Work closely with M&E teams to develop and use assessment tools.

  • Support data collection and participate in internal evaluations.

Representation

  • Represent DRC at local working group meetings if assigned.

  • Advocate for DRC’s mission with authorities as needed.ased on operational needs.

Required Qualifications & Experience

Essential:

  • Diploma or Bachelor’s in Social Sciences, Development Studies, or related field.

  • 6 months – 1 year of relevant experience in:

    • Cash & Voucher Assistance (CVA)

    • Data collection

    • Community sensitization

  • Fluency in English and local languages.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Basic computer literacy (Excel, Kobo, ODK).

  • Must be a resident of Katsina State.

Desirable:

  • Experience working with humanitarian agencies.

  • Familiarity with prepaid card systems and financial service providers.

  • Prior work with returnees, IDPs, and host communities.

  • All project equipment must be returned at the end of the contract period.
