Are you looking for a chance to contribute to vital humanitarian work and make a real impact in communities? Action Against Hunger, a leading international organization dedicated to ending world hunger, is seeking dedicated Enumerators to join their team in Borno State!

For almost 40 years, Action Against Hunger has been on the front lines, fighting undernutrition and supporting communities affected by crises across nearly 50 countries. In Nigeria, they’ve been active since 2010, initially addressing chronic malnutrition in the North and expanding their crucial work in Health, Nutrition, Food Security, WASH, and Shelter, particularly in response to the Northeast Nigeria crisis. They are supported by major international donors like FCDO, ECHO, GAC, and UNICEF, among others.

About the Role: Enumerator

As an Enumerator, you’ll play a critical role in supporting Action Against Hunger’s Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) and Programs teams. Your primary responsibility will be to collect high-quality qualitative and quantitative data directly from the field.

  • Reports to: M&E or Programme Officer
  • Proposed Start Date: August 2025
  • Work Location: Borno State

What You’ll Be Doing (Key Responsibilities):

Your day-to-day tasks will involve:

  • Conducting data collection using mobile devices or paper forms.
  • Transcribing interviews and taking accurate notes.
  • Asking survey questions clearly and precisely, ensuring all questions are asked as worded.
  • Providing live translation of data collection tools and interpreting interview findings in English.
  • Accurately recording responses and probing for clarity when answers are unclear.
  • Strictly following survey methodologies and ensuring proper handling of data collection devices.
  • Reporting any beneficiary complaints or issues to the accountability unit.
  • Providing feedback and complaint forms to stakeholders when needed.
  • Giving daily feedback to field supervisors.

Who They’re Looking For (Position Requirements):

Action Against Hunger is looking for individuals who:

  • Hold a minimum of a Senior Secondary School Certificate/Diploma in any science or social sciences or any other relevant field.
  • Have at least one year of experience in field data collection.
  • Are fluent in English and local languages common in Borno, especially Hausa, Kanuri, Shuwa, and Fulani (both written and spoken).
  • Possess prior experience in multi-language interpretation and translation.
  • Have strong interpersonal skills and can work effectively with diverse groups.
  • Are experienced in using smartphones for data collection.
  • Have a good capacity to work collaboratively in a team.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of survey procedures and data quality techniques.
  • Possess strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Have a good understanding of the local situation, community dynamics, and cultural, gender, and protection issues, including the ability to convey information in local languages.
