About the Role: Research Assistant

This consultancy position aims to support a qualitative study focused on understanding the perceived feasibility and acceptability of an integrated External Quality Assurance (EQA) and Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) intervention. You will play a crucial role in gathering insights from key stakeholders involved in its implementation and oversight.

Purpose and Objectives of the Study:

The study aims to:

• Explore stakeholder perspectives on the intervention’s implementation, including facilitators and barriers.
• Assess the acceptability of the intervention’s design, tools, and processes among hospital staff, project implementers, and government stakeholders.
• Gather recommendations for improving, institutionalizing, or scaling up the intervention.

Scope of the Assessment:

The qualitative assessment will be conducted in selected project-supported hospitals and relevant oversight institutions in Kano State, such as the State Malaria Elimination Programme (SMEP) and the Hospital Management Board (HMB). It will involve Key Informant Interviews (KIIs) with various stakeholders, including clinical and laboratory personnel, hospital managers, EQA supervisors, CQI facilitators, and government officials.

Your Contribution (Specific Tasks):

As a Research Assistant, your responsibilities will include:

• Supporting the scheduling and coordination of KIIs across selected sites.
• Assisting with notetaking and audio recording during interviews.
• Transcribing interview recordings promptly and accurately, including translation from Hausa to English where applicable.
• Organizing and labeling transcripts and recordings for easy retrieval and analysis.
• Maintaining confidentiality and adhering to ethical standards for sensitive information.
• Providing general fieldwork support, such as respondent follow-up and documentation.
• Participating in daily debriefings with the lead consultant to ensure progress.

Deliverables: You will be responsible for submitting accurate English translations and transcripts of assigned interviews, along with corresponding audio files and labeled field notes.

Malaria Consortium is seeking an individual with:

• A Bachelor’s degree in public health, social sciences, or a related field.
• Experience supporting qualitative data collection, including transcription and translation.
• Proficiency in English and Hausa (both spoken and written).
• Good organizational and communication skills.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and follow ethical research protocols.

Previous working experience with Malaria Consortium (MC) and in Seasonal Malaria Chemoprevention (SMC) are added advantages.
