The British Council is looking for a Payroll Officer to join their team, supporting payroll operations across the Ghana, Nigeria, and Jordan hub! Role Overview

As a Payroll Officer, you’ll support lean transactional payroll operations, focusing on compliance, efficiency, and accuracy across the hub. This involves maintaining precise payroll master data and employee records, and collaborating with the Hub Payroll Consultant to deliver excellent payroll administrative services. The role emphasizes a systematic approach and continuous improvement.

  • Salary:
    • Ghana: GHS 5342.00 Gross (depending on skill/experience)
    • Nigeria: NGN 9579375.00 Gross (depending on skill/experience)
    • Jordan: JOD 645 (depending on skill/experience)

Key Responsibilities

Your main accountabilities will include:

  • Relationship & Stakeholder Management: Support seamless employee experience, handle payroll queries promptly, and resolve tickets in a customer-centric manner.
  • Data Management: Ensure accuracy and regular updates in MyHR (Global HRIS) and payroll software, prepare monthly reconciliations and reports, and assist with reviewing employee data.
  • Records Management: Maintain rigorous filing of payroll documents, support archiving/destroying records in line with data protection policies, and assist with audits.
  • Professional Services Expertise: Work with MSP and Payroll Consultant to support regional payroll operations strategy, assist with payroll calculations, follow up on statutory body payments, ensure timely payslip distribution, consolidate reports, prepare journals/accruals, and support final settlements for leavers and vendor payments.
  • Teamwork: Proactively support team members and show flexibility.

Qualifications and Requirements

The British Council is looking for candidates with:

  • Education: Degree Level Education in Finance or HR.
  • Language: Written and verbal proficiency in English is required.
  • Minimum/Essential Experience:
    • Experience working with multiple datasets and confidential employee information.
    • Experience delivering payroll operations processes and practices.
  • Desirable Skills:
    • Knowledge of automation in payroll.
    • Experience with payroll operations across several countries in the region.
    • Ability to demonstrate critical thinking skills and initiative.
    • Experience working in a multinational organization with varied cultures.
