About the Role: Lead Data Governance Engineer

As a Lead Data Governance Engineer, you’ll be instrumental in defining, monitoring, and executing critical data governance policies. Your work will involve developing Python-based tooling for automated data mesh operations and ensuring strict compliance with internal policies and global regulatory frameworks like GDPR, DPA, and ISO. You’ll play a pivotal role in enabling secure and well-governed access to comprehensive datasets within Canonical’s advanced data mesh architecture.

Key Responsibilities:

Your core responsibilities will include:

Defining, monitoring, and executing robust data governance policies.
Designing, implementing, and maintaining custom tooling for automated data mesh operations.
Deploying and operating services developed by your team.
Depending on your seniority, coaching, mentoring, and offering career development feedback to colleagues.
Developing and championing excellent engineering and organizational practices

Who They’re Looking For (Qualifications):

Canonical is seeking a candidate with:

An HND or Bachelor’s Degree in a technical subject, or a compelling background demonstrating an alternative path.
An exceptional academic track record from both high school and university.
A proven track record of exceeding expectations to deliver outstanding results.
Experience with data quality, governance, and security processes and tools.
Proficiency in software development using Python and SQL.
Professional written and spoken English with excellent presentation skills.
A results-oriented approach and a strong personal drive to meet commitments.
The ability to travel internationally twice a year for company events (up to two weeks long).
