Family Health International (FHI 360), a global human development organization, is seeking an experienced Assistant Technical Officer – Pharmacy to support its humanitarian response in Northeast Nigeria. This full-time role is based in Damasak, Borno, and is a critical part of a project aimed at providing emergency assistance to vulnerable populations.

Job Summary

The Assistant Technical Officer, Pharmacy will work as part of a multidisciplinary team to prepare and dispense medications, ensuring accurate advice is provided to patients. A key part of this role is managing the entire supply chain of medicines and other health commodities, from inventory control to reporting, to ensure efficient and ethical distribution.

Responsibilities

Your core responsibilities will fall into three main areas:

  • Patient Care & Dispensing:
    • Dispense prescribed medications to patients and provide accurate medication advice.
    • Prepare extemporaneous medicaments like mixtures and ointments.
    • Work as part of a team to provide high-quality patient care.
  • Supply Chain & Inventory Management:
    • Manage the supply chain of all drugs and medical commodities, including their forward and reverse logistics.
    • Conduct monthly inventory and spot checks as per standard operational procedures.
    • Ensure proper storage and issuance of all drugs over the duration of the project.
    • Carry out inspection duties in line with relevant operational legislation.

  • Reporting & Audits:
    • Work with supervisors to ensure consumption data aligns with morbidity data, preventing misuse.
    • Collaborate with other unit heads to provide accurate consumption reports.
    • Participate in routine quality control audits of all drugs in stock.
    • Compiles and submits periodic reports.

Requirements & Skills

  • Mandatory Qualifications:
    • A BSc. in Pharmacy with a minimum of 1–3 years of post-NYSC experience.
    • Must be a Registered Pharmacist with a valid practicing license.
  • Experience & Skills:
    • Strong knowledge of inventory control systems and managing health commodity logistics.
    • Familiarity with Nigerian public sector health systems and NGOs is highly desirable.
    • Previous experience working in a humanitarian crisis is a significant asset.
    • High proficiency in both written and spoken English and Hausa (knowledge of Kanuri is an asset).
    • Ability to manage tight deadlines and work with minimal supervision.
    • Well-developed computer skills.
