Career Opportunity: Aviation Assistant – World Food Programme (WFP), Maiduguri
The World Food Programme (WFP) is seeking a highly skilled Aviation Assistant to support the United Nations Humanitarian Air Service (UNHAS) in Maiduguri. This role is critical to ensuring the safe and efficient transport of passengers and life-saving cargo across Northeast Nigeria.
Role Overview

Key Responsibilities
Flight & Passenger Coordination
-
Documentation: Prepare and distribute loading instructions, passenger/cargo manifests, and Dangerous Goods declarations.

Communication: Notify passengers of flight schedules at least one day in advance and manage check-in procedures.

Problem Solving: Handle passenger complaints regarding service or missing luggage and report them to the Aviation Officer.
Cargo & Ground Operations

Loading Supervision: Supervise ground staff in the weighing, tagging, and loading/off-loading of baggage and cargo.

Safety & Security: Enforce safety protocols around the aircraft and ensure cargo is properly packed, sealed, and labeled.

Dangerous Goods: Ensure all hazardous materials meet ICAO/IATA regulations for air transport.

Data Management: Use the Take Flite application to book cargo/passengers and compile weekly SITREPs (Situation Reports) and fuel usage data.

Requirements & Experience
-
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Aviation Management, Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field in Logistics/Transportation.

Experience: Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in aviation operations, airline administration, or ground handling.

Language: Fluency in English (Level C); proficiency in local languages used in Maiduguri is highly desirable.

Technical Knowledge:
-
Experience in restricted flying zones and flight planning.

Ability to interpret weather reports and perform radio telephony.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office and aviation software.

Humanitarian Context: Previous experience with UNHAS or emergency response flights.

Regulatory Expertise: Familiarity with ICAO, IATA, and UN aviation policies.
