Job Opportunity: Medicine Dispenser – Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF)

Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is recruiting a Medicine Dispenser for their operations in Jigawa State. This role is critical for ensuring that patients receive the correct medications safely while maintaining the integrity of the medical supply chain in a humanitarian setting.

 Role Overview

• Position: Medicine Dispenser

• Location: Jigawa, Nigeria

• Organization: MSF (Doctors Without Borders)

• Reporting To: Technical Reference / Pharmacy Team

 Key Responsibilities

1. Dispensing & Patient Education

• Accurate Dispensing: Label medications with drug name, strength, quantity, expiry, and clear directions.

• Counseling: Advise patients on how to take drugs, storage, and possible side effects to ensure treatment adherence.

• Chronic Care: Conduct Patient Therapeutic Education (PTE) for HIV/TB patients, monitoring adherence and coordinating with doctors on any issues.

2. Pharmacy Management

• Stock Control: Maintain minimum stock levels, monitor expiry dates, and place timely orders with the central pharmacy.

• Safety & Security: Ensure “controlled drugs” are handled per MSF policy and that the dispensary remains restricted to authorized personnel.

• Quarantine: Properly segregate out-of-date or returned medications in a designated quarantine zone.

3. Clinical Support

• Unit Supply: Update emergency cupboards in hospital units daily and provide medications for in-patients packed individually.

• Compliance: Ensure opened or reconstituted medicines are properly labeled and discarded according to safety standards.

Qualification & Experience

• Education: Minimum of an OND qualification (typically in Health Technology, Pharmacy Technician studies, or a related field).

• Skills: Strong organizational habits, attention to detail, and a patient-centered approach to communication.
