In Nigeria, ZOA has been active since 2016, providing humanitarian and early recovery assistance across Borno and Yobe States. Our focus areas include Food Security & Livelihoods, WaSH, and Education.
Role Overview
As a Community Engagement Assistant, you will play a key role in mobilizing and empowering community members to participate in recovery and development initiatives. Working closely with local stakeholders and project teams, you’ll support community-led planning, inclusive participation, awareness campaigns, and feedback systems — ensuring that no one is left behind.

Key Responsibilities

Facilitate Community-Based Participatory Planning (CBPP) sessions and follow-ups

Mobilize IDPs, host communities, women, youth, and persons with disabilities

Support formation and revitalization of community groups (e.g. peace committees, VSLAs)

Organize sensitization sessions on project goals, selection criteria, and roles
-
Track inclusive participation and ensure community awareness of safeguarding and feedback systems

Work with MEAL, Protection, and Gender teams to promote accountability

Assist in organizing peacebuilding events and social cohesion activities

Conduct data collection, beneficiary verification, and community feedback gathering

Document success stories and share updates with MEAL and program teams

Requirements
-
Diploma or degree in Community Development, Social Sciences, or related field

Minimum 2 years of experience in community engagement or mobilization
-
Skilled in inclusive facilitation and working with diverse community groups
-
Familiarity with local governance systems and CBPP methods
-
Basic skills in reporting, documentation, and data collection

Fluency in English and local languages (e.g., Kanuri, Hausa)

Strong interpersonal, communication, and cultural sensitivity skills
-
Commitment to inclusion, protection, and gender equity
