Safeguarding & Impact Officer at Terra Academy for the Arts (TAFTA)

We are seeking a highly motivated Safeguarding & Impact Officer to join our team in Lagos, Kano, or Ogun State. This is a critical, dual-focused role responsible for ensuring the safety of all program participants and measuring the positive change our programs create.

The ideal candidate has a strong commitment to ethical practice, excellent analytical skills, and a thorough understanding of both safeguarding and impact evaluation methodologies.

Key Responsibilities

This role is split between two primary functions:

Safeguarding (Approx. 60%)

• Policy & Procedure: Review and update safeguarding policies in line with national and international best practices.
• Monitoring & Training: Conduct spot checks at TAFTA activities and assist in designing and delivering comprehensive safeguarding training for staff, volunteers, and partners.
• Case Management & Reporting: Report and manage all safeguarding concerns and incidents to the Gender Inclusion and Safeguarding Lead, ensuring proper documentation and investigation.
• Risk Assessment: Conduct regular risk assessments and implement effective mitigation strategies to ensure the safety of participants and staff.

Impact Measurement (Approx. 40%)

• Framework & Tool Development: Work with the Gender Inclusion and Safeguarding Lead to design and implement the organization’s impact measurement framework, including data collection methodologies and tools.
• Data Collection & Analysis: Support the collection and analysis of both qualitative and quantitative data to assess the program’s effectiveness and measure impact against set indicators.
• Reporting & Learning: Prepare clear impact reports and presentations for internal use and for donors. Facilitate organizational learning by sharing findings with program teams to inform continuous improvement.

Qualifications & Experience

• Education: A Bachelor’s degree in Sociology, International Development, Psychology, Statistics, M&E, or a related field. A Master’s degree or specialized certification in Safeguarding or M&E is highly desirable.
• Experience:
  • A minimum of 3 years of progressive experience in safeguarding or child protection, with a track record of managing cases.
  • A minimum of 2-3 years of experience in monitoring, evaluation, and learning (M&E), impact measurement, or research, preferably in a non-profit context.
• Skills: Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with proficiency in data analysis software (e.g., Excel, SPSS). Excellent written and verbal communication, and the ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and empathy.
