University of Abuja (Yakubu Gowon University) — Nationwide Recruitment Notice

The University of Abuja (now Yakubu Gowon University) is inviting applications for numerous Academic and Non-Teaching Staff positions across various faculties and colleges.

The application window for this external advertisement will run for six (6) weeks from the date of publication.

A. Academic Staff Positions (CONUASS Grades)

Vacancies are available across all academic ranks. All candidates applying for positions other than Graduate Assistant must possess a minimum of a Second Class Lower degree (unless postgraduate degrees specify otherwise).

1. Professor (CONUASS 7)

• Education: PhD or equivalent (medical postgraduate fellowships such as FWACP, FMCP, etc., count as equivalent).

• Experience: Minimum 9 years of university teaching experience.

• Publications: Minimum 15 publications.

• Research & Leadership: Google Scholar h-index of at least 3. Must demonstrate evidence of academic leadership (postgraduate supervision) and ability to attract research grants.

2. Associate Professor (CONUASS 6)

• Education: PhD or equivalent.

• Experience: At least 6 years of teaching or library experience at the university level.

• Publications: Minimum 12 publications.

• Research: Google Scholar h-index of at least 2.

• Note: Candidates who have never taught at a university cannot be appointed directly to Professor or Associate Professor.

3. Senior Lecturer (CONUASS 5)

• Education: PhD or equivalent.

• Experience: At least 3 years’ university teaching experience at Lecturer I / Librarian I level.

• Publications: Minimum 9 publications.

• Professional Body: Must be a registered member of a relevant professional body.

• Research: Google Scholar h-index of at least 1.

4. Lecturer I (CONUASS 4)

• Education: PhD or equivalent.

• Publications: Minimum of 6 publications.

• Experience: Typically must have served as Lecturer II / Librarian II for three years (where applicable).

5. Lecturer II (CONUASS 3)

• Education: PhD or equivalent qualification recognized by the University, OR a relevant professional postgraduate qualification (e.g., LLB/BL plus LLM, MBBS/DVM, BEng plus COREN, MSc Agric, MTech, MEng).

• Undergraduate Degree: First degree normally at least Second Class Lower Division (plus required postgraduate degrees).

6. Assistant Lecturer (CONUASS 2)

• Education: Master’s degree or equivalent (e.g., LLB/BL or LLB/LLM, BEng, BSc Eng).

• Undergraduate Degree: First degree normally Second Class Upper Division.

7. Graduate Assistant (CONUASS 1)

• Education: First degree with a minimum of Second Class Upper Division from the University of Abuja or any recognized institution.
