The Embassy of the United States in Nigeria is seeking a qualified individual to fill the position of Economic Assistant within the Economic Section in Abuja. This role is central to tracking economic trends, fostering diplomatic relationships, and supporting the mission’s reporting on Nigerian government priorities.

 Role Overview

  • Job Title: Economic Assistant

  • Location: Abuja, Nigeria

  • Employment Type: Full-Time

  • Salary: USD $53,945 (Bi-weekly)

  • Clearance Level: Secret Clearance required

 Key Responsibilities

  • Research & Reporting: Undertake economic research and draft official cables and reports for the U.S. government.

  • Relationship Management: Develop and maintain contacts within host government ministries, NGOs, international organizations, and the business sector.

  • Strategic Tracking: Monitor Government of Nigeria priorities and track progress toward U.S. Government (USG) objectives.

  • Logistics & Representation: Organize high-level meetings for the Ambassador, Deputy Chief of Mission (DCM), and Economic Counselor. Serve as a control officer for official visits and represent the Embassy at in-country functions.

  • Committee Participation: Represent the Economic Section in various Embassy committees and internal working groups.

 Qualifications and Requirements

  • Education: A minimum of two (2) years of university studies is required.

  • Experience: At least two (2) years of work experience relevant to the major duties of the position. Proven experience in effective interpersonal engagement and communication is essential.

  • Language: Fluent in English (Speaking, Reading, and Writing).

  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in the Microsoft Office software suite is mandatory.

  • Professional Skills: Strong analytical, drafting, and public speaking abilities.
