About the Role

Shell is looking for a highly skilled Instrument Technician to ensure the safe and reliable operation of SNG facilities. You will be responsible for the lifecycle of field instrumentation—from routine calibration to complex troubleshooting of automation equipment and Distributed Control Systems (DCS).

Core Mission

Your primary goal is to maintain plant stability and support “Goal Zero” (zero incidents/spills) through rigorous preventive maintenance and high-level technical support for the Emerson DeltaV DCS environment.

Key Responsibilities

1. Maintenance & Field Instrumentation

  • Execution: Perform preventive, corrective, and predictive maintenance on transmitters (pressure, flow, level, temperature), sensors, and analyzers.

  • Calibration: Conduct loop testing and functional checks per OEM standards.

  • CMMS: Update maintenance records and calibration reports within the Computerized Maintenance Management System.

2. Process Automation & DeltaV DCS Support

  • System Health: Troubleshoot DeltaV DCS hardware, replace faulty modules, and perform system backups.

  • Optimization: Diagnose automation issues like trips or alarm floods and implement control logic changes to improve reliability.

  • Control Loops: Support stable operations through precise control loop tuning and troubleshooting signal failures.

3. Reliability & Continuous Improvement

  • Root Cause Analysis (RCA): Participate in failure investigations for recurring equipment issues.

  • Documentation: Keep loop drawings, P&IDs, and instrument indexes updated.

  • Turnarounds: Provide technical support during plant shutdowns, commissioning, and handovers.

Qualifications & Experience

Educational Background:

  • Minimum: HND in Instrumentation Engineering, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, or Automation & Control.

  • Advantage: A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant engineering field.

Professional Experience:

  • Duration: 5 to 8 years in instrumentation/control maintenance.

  • System Expertise: Strong hands-on experience specifically with Emerson DeltaV DCS operations and maintenance is mandatory.

  • Ability to interpret complex P&IDs, loop drawings, and control narratives.
