Role Purpose

Interns will support the Transforming Lives Through Nutrition project. This is a field-based opportunity to work directly with state coordinators, partner organizations, and rural communities to implement life-saving nutrition interventions for mothers and children.

Key Responsibilities

1. Community Nutrition & Clinical Support

Screening Oversight: Supervise Mid-Upper Arm Circumference (MUAC) screening for children under 5 to detect malnutrition.
Cooking Demonstrations: Organize and ensure the quality of food cooking sessions based on global best practices.
MMS Support: Facilitate the implementation of Multiple Micronutrient Supplementation (MMS).
Integrated Care: Link screening results with hygiene promotion and Maternal, Infant, and Young Child Nutrition (MIYCN) programs.

2. Capacity Building & Advocacy

Mentorship: Provide on-the-job training for community volunteers (“Model Moms”) on Mother-led MUAC.
Stakeholder Engagement: Maintain relationships with government ministries, nutrition working groups, and private sector partners.
Awareness: Support advocacy efforts to gain support for nutrition interventions from academia, research institutions, and civil society.

3. Data Management & Reporting

Surveys: Conduct nutrition assessments and surveys as approved by the donor.
Quality Control: Support data collection and assist in compiling weekly, monthly, and quarterly progress reports.
Knowledge Management: Document success stories and lessons learned to improve program delivery.

Required Qualifications & Skills

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition, Public Health, Agriculture, Food Science, or Data Science.
Technical Skills: * High computer literacy (Microsoft Office Suite).
- Strong Excel skills are essential.
- Proficiency in STATA or R is a significant advantage.
Field Readiness: Ability and willingness to work in rural communities and travel frequently within targeted areas.
Communication: Ability to draft routine program correspondence and communicate effectively across cultures.
Languages: Proficiency in English and the local language of the implementation state (e.g., Hausa for Northern states, Igbo for Ebonyi, etc.).
